{twd} split level pudding pops

My idea for turning this week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe–Split Level Pudding–into frozen pudding pops was a bust. I made 1/3rd of the vanilla pudding and the full-recipe of the chocolate ganache and decided to make frozen pudding pops.  I had enough to make 3 popsicles, but I could only successfully release one from the mold.newpic

But that’s okay because I had a fun weekend in Las Vegas with friends from high school. And I ate at Bouchon twice. Once for dinner and once for breakfast.

I will always *heart* the bread, but the sourdough waffles for breakfast were so amazing. I will never ever be able to make waffles as good as Bouchon’s. They were so perfectly light and crispy. And they were served with Tahitian vanilla butter.

And by the end of the weekend, my friends were all taking pictures of their food. In addition to eating at Bouchon, we ate at Tao and as luck would have it, the nightclub portion of Tao was celebrating their 4th anniversary and we got in VIP. Jennifer Love Hewitt was the host and also in attendance were P. Diddy and Tiger Woods.

We also ate at Tom Colicchio’s craftsteak. Where they gave us free Muscato with dessert because we were celebrating a friend’s birthday (and they customized our dessert choice, monkey bread, with a birthday message).

  1. I think your pops were a fab idea, even if it didn’t turn out as planned. The one that came out is cute. Looks and sounds as if you had a marvellous time in Las Vegas – great photos!

  2. I’m so jealous – Bouchon, craftsteak, all that wonderful food… And I love the pic of you with the pain d’epi 🙂 As for the pudding pops – great idea! Sorry most of them didn’t feel like cooperating.

  3. I live vicariously through your adventures! Bouchon – and that bread – sound/look amazing. It’s a goal, right? Love the pudding pop. It’s annoying when our desserts don’t buy into our plans for them, don’t you think?

  4. Love your pops, and as long as one comes out of the mold for the photo op, you’re good, right? It sounds like a great weekend! And you ate at some great restaurants. I had the privilege of eating at Bouchon Bakery in NYC this summer — as well as craftsteak in NYC — both amazing!

  5. I’m not sure if you ever posted pictures of you, but I must say it is super nice to finaly put a face to your name, Pink! LOL LOL

As for the busted pops… well, still the idea had ingenious and counts for a lot anyways!

  6. Pudding pops are a great idea. At least you got one to come out for your pictures. A pudding pop sounds delightful. I’m envious of all that good food you must have had this past weekend. Sounds like a good time.

  7. What a bummer that the pops didn’t cooperate. The one looks great! I love Bouchon. Their bread is heavenly. What a fun weekend; friends and great food. Hubert Keller’s Burger Bar is a great casual place to eat in Vegas – on your next trip.

  8. Even if they didn’t work, your pudding pop idea is brilliant! Looks like your trip was a lot of fun with good food and great friends to share it with.

  9. The pudding pops were an awesome idea and the one you got out of the mold looks tasty!! I loved all of your tweets about your Vegas trip. I’ve never been and was living vicariously through you 🙂

  10. Looks like someone is having fun in Vegas! I am going this weekend and hoping to take advantage of the pool parties before they are bye-bye for the year. 😉

I like the idea of pudding pops! Too bad it didn’t work out, but I do appreciate the creativity!

  11. What a fun idea. Bummer about them not unmolding. The one looks awesome. But I’d totally take the Vegas trip over the pudding pop! What a fun looking time!
    I would LOVE those waffles!

  12. I hate when popsicles won’t come out of the dang molds!! :-p

Looks like you had a blast with your friends! I used to live in Vegas, glad I’m back in Wisconsin. LOL 😉

  13. Pudding pops! I froze mine, but because I had to, not by choice. Pudding didn’t thicken. Made it again yesterday and it turned out perfect. 🙂 Sounds like an exciting time in Vegas. Never been.

  14. What a fantastic idea! That might be the only way I would actually enjoy pudding. I skipped this week, but next time a pudding recipe comes up, I’m freezing it! Looks like you had a fun trip, I’m glad you were reunited with the bread 🙂

  15. I still say freaking jealous!!!!! Although I want to do know how did you do gambling?

Amazing how many dishes I have redone but holy crap the dish tasted amazing but it was not photogenic. We need better addictions.

  16. Your pudding pops look delicious and what a brilliant idea! I joined this baking group because of the idea of baking through an actual cookbook but end up having more fun seeing how creative everyone else is. I want to make the recipe again just so I can try this, only change the pudding flavor to banana.

  17. That’s great, HS friends and a birthday to boot. What fun and what a great destination. Thanks for sharing. Very cute pudding pops as well. It must have been fun eating the lone release. he he Great job Wendy

  18. Sorry to hear that the pudding pops didn’t work out better. It’s still a great idea. And glad to see that you enjoyed your weekend. =) I like the idea of Tahitian vanilla butter–I’m going to have to try to make some. I love my waffle recipe–it uses yeast and quite a bit of butter, so the waffles are always light and crispy.

  19. Wow, first of all pudding pop is such a great idea. I can never think of these things until its too late. Looks like you had a kickass time in Vegas. Tahitian vanilla butter?! Yes please.

  20. Looks like you and I had the same Vegas itin that weekend–Bouchon and Tao! I had to post on the doughnuts at Bouchon…was the *most* perfect dinner of trip. Still dreaming about that bread!!

  21. That pudding-sickle would be a great hit around here for sure…what a creative idea to do something like that. It looks really nice. Love all the photos of you and your friends…the one of you holding the bread is my favorite b/c of all the discussion about you and that bread!!! Such fun. Thanks for sharing all this, I live vicariously through you!
