{sms} spiced pumpkin cookie cakes

It’s all pumpkin, all the time right now. It was fine and dandy last week when *gasp* it was below 70°F and I contemplated turning on the heat. Today it was 97°F and it’s expected to be in the high 80’s for the next week.  Even though it’s not pumpkin weather, I’ve decided that this week will be Pumpkin Week on Pink Stripes. All posts, with the exception of one, will be pumpkin posts.

This week’s Sweet Melissa Sundays selection–Spiced Pumpkin Cookie Cakes–starts off the week with a fantastic bang. It’s a cookie! It’s a cake! It’s a cookie cake! This cinnamon-nutmeg spiced treat reminds me of a whoopie pie. It may actually be a whoopie pie, 2 round cakes sandwiching a creamy filling. Yup, I think this fits the bill.

Thanks to Debbie of Every Day Blessings of The Five Dee’s for hosting this week. If you would like the recipe, visit her blog or buy the book.

  1. I haven’t ventured much beyond pumpkin bread (tho I love that!) so I’m looking forward to seeing your treats! On the other hand, I’m anxiously hoarding the two cans I have left over from last year, because I still haven’t been able to find any this year… These cookies look wonderful – moist and cakey.

  2. Pumpkin week sounds like so much fun! Your cookie cakes look wonderful, I’m planning on making mine later this morning and had to come and see how yours turned out 🙂

  3. Pumpkin week? I’m in. I just posted a pumpkin bread this morning.

And what’s with the weather? It’s going to be 92 here today – what happened to fall?

  4. I thought it was a whoopie pie, too. I’m glad to know I wasn’t alone in that assessment! Your pumpkin cakes look perfect, and I can’t wait to see what else pops up during pumpkin week on Pink Stripes.

  5. When I was reading over the directions I was thinking whoopie pies too ( which have been on my list to make). Can’t wait to see your creations for Pumpkin Week.

  6. I laughed out loud when I read “all pumpkin all the time” as yes, I think it is with your Twitter girls…I’m ready to call cease and desist, but the strong keep persisting! I have to admit, these look delightful. You have such a way with things!

  7. The cookie cake looks so perfect! Gosh, I still haven’t made anything from pumpkin in my entire life. I need to remedy that, right Ms. Pumpkin? 🙂

  8. These look great, especially with the cream cheese filling. Our fall weather is more like winter – guess no one is getting a break this year.

  9. Yes, all of California seems to be very bipolar in its weather. I was up in Berkeley and it was raining one day and then sunny a couple days later.

The cookie cakes look so amazing!

  10. Yes, I totally thought this was basically a whoopie pie. And a damn fine one, at that. I’m totally jealous of your weather, by the way. It’s cold in Ontario, Canada right now!

  11. They do remind me to whoopie pies. Although mine didn’t raise as much as I would have liked.

We’ve already had snow here, so I am envious of your weather!

  12. Wow, talk about night and day with the weather – it’s snowing here! Your cookie cakes are gorgeous. Did you pipe them? Mine were nowhere near as perfectly circular.

  13. Ooh, ooh, you KNOW I’m excited about Pumpkin Week! Can’t get enough of the stuff, and now that I’ve located some in my neighborhood grocery store I’m not having to be quite so stingy. Love the way your cookies look – I’ve had zucchini whoopie pies and they were delicious too.

  14. These look great! I was thinking about doing a pumpkin week soon too, but looks like you beat me to it.
Must add this to the ever growing list of pumpkin treats I want to bake!

  15. If you can’t find canned pumpkin one can always cut up a fresh pumpkin and bake it. It is easy and not hard to do. This veggie is one of the very few that taste the same whether from the can or baked fresh!

  16. 97?!? Stop the madness! You’re so brave to turn on your oven, and these little cuties look well worth the extra sweltering. I’m looking forward to all pumpkin, all the time.

  17. Aaaahhhh, so that’s what they’re supposed to look like!! Look soooo good. Definitely going to give these another go once I’ve managed to source some proper puree! x

  18. These look sooooooooooo good. I am a pumpkin fan, regardless of the season. I have this book and haven’t used it yet – your weekly posts are inspiring me to blow the dust off and get into it.
