{sms} brownies!

Brownies! Who doesn’t love brownies? This week’s Sweet Melissa Sundays recipe selection was a classic brownie recipe. I made this particular recipe a while back for a filling of an absolutely awesome cake.

This time around I made them as part of a brownie platter for a mid-summer pool party. Still delicious. Still worth it.
No nuts this time. And still doing everything via iPhone.

{sms} pistachio linzer thumbprints

I made this week’s Sweet Melissa Sundays selection to give away. I made a half a batch and gave half (of the half :p ) to my Mom and the other half to my friends in San Diego. Everyone loved them. Thanks to Tracey of Tracey’s Culinary Adventures for hosting this week. (Although these were good, I prefer less fussy cookies. Give me a chocolate chip cookie any day!). For the recipe, visit her blog or buy the book!

{sms} a sweet melissa catch up

I’ve been baking most of the Sweet Melissa Sundays recipes but haven’t had time to write about them. The purpose of this post is just to catch up a bit. (I will admit, though, I did not bake the Coconut Custard Pie nor the Pumpkin Bread Pudding with Caramel Rum-Raisin Sauce).

Peanut Butter Truffles

Butterscotch Pralines

Orange-Blueberry Mini-Muffins with Pecan Crumble

Sweet Potato Bread with Cinnamon-Orange-Rum Glaze (love boozy desserts!)

{sms} pecan shortbread cookies

Very easy cookie for a very busy week. No need to wait for the butter to come to room temperature.

Very delicious. My mother couldn’t stop talking about them.

Thanks to Lara of The Lab for hosting this week’s Sweet Melissa Sundays. For the recipe visit her blog or buy the book.

(Can I say once again how much I heart the wordpress app? I’m writing this on my kitchen during Easter dinner preparations.)

{sms} apple pie with benefits

Apple pie with benefits? Yes. Usually the benefits would be ice cream. Vanilla is traditional, but cinnamon or Calvados ice creams would rock too.

In this case, the benefit is a sweet & creamy caramel sauce. Tart granny Smith apples play a nice counterpoint.

This week’s Sweet Melissa Sundays recipe–Double-Crusted Caramel Apple Pie was the bee’s knees. It was a cinch to throw together; it helped having pie crust in the freezer (I used something in my freezer! One down, a gazillion to go!).

The original recipe makes one 10 inch pie. I had 1/2 of Dorie Greenspan’s Good for Almost Anything Pie Crust which was not enough for the full size pie. It was just enough for one super-cute 4″ pie.

Short and sweet–I’m writing this on Friday as I walk out the door to head to Vegas for the weekend and on Sunday I’ll be heading back home. I just got back into the groove of baking and blogging and didn’t want to miss a beat.

Thanks to Susan of Baking with Susan for hosting this week. If you would like the recipe, visit her blog or buy the book.
