Isa Chandra Moskowitz writes in Veganomicon that you can add avocado to anything and call the dish California. It’s true we do take avocados for granted here in California. I grew up eating them and adding them to everything. I’ve never had them in a warm pasta dish before and that’s why I wanted to try this recipe.
In addition to the avocado, Pasta Della California is made with broccoli and argula. A simple sauce of 8 cloves of garlic (yes, eight!), lime zest & juice, red pepper flakes, vegetable broth, and white wine coats everything. It did require a bit of prep work. I had to mince those 8 cloves , chop the broccoli, and slice the avocado. Once all the knife work was done, I made the sauce while the pasta was cooking.
You can find the recipe for Pasta Della California HERE. I used whole-wheat linguine.
Also, fruit from the farmers’ market this year is outstanding. The locally-grown blueberries are the best I’ve ever tasted. They taste like someone added brown sugar to therm. They are so sweet. I’ve been eating blueberries straight out of the bag. I do occasionally make a fruit salad with them:

Mmm…. I love avocados! This recipe sounds so simple and tasty! And I have all of those ingredients on hand at all times! Awesome!
That’s one thing I miss about our house in California – we had an avocado tree in our yard.
sigh.
totally delicious looking! I miss my old avacado tree too…
Anything tastes better with an avocado added! This looks like a great pasta dish! And I love your description of the sweet blueberries! Sounds sooo yummy!
I love avocados, I wonder if I put them on my Shredded Wheat… would that make it Californian? 😉
Everything looks so light and colourful and delish.
Looks and sounds good! It has everything the kids and I love! I’ll definitely give it a try.

What a cool recipe, I wouldn’t have thought to add avocado to pasta. It looks so good and I love all that garlic!
Yum! Eight cloves of garlic don’t scare me. This really looks delicious and I bet I could add cannellini beans and make it a meal.
Love the avocados, the arugula, the broccoli, the garlic and especially the liberal use of red pepper flakes!! I want that for tonight’s dinner…
That looks like a really flavorful pasta and the fresh fruit for dessert? amazing..
Avocado makes just about everything more delicious! Looks great. 🙂
Love this! I really love avocados – it must be nice to have them locally grown. Can’t wait to try this.
Great pasta salad and the fruit looks good too. I tend to OD on fruit in the summer:)
I love this dish!!! I would have NEVER thought of putting avocados in a pasta dish, but I guess… why not?! It must be creamy and delicious! And 8 cloves of garlic: I’m there! The garlickier the better!!!! (I’m pretty sure that’s not how you spell “garlickier”!)
I really don’t eat enough avocado. It’s so yummy and versatile, I need to use it more often. The pasta look fabulous!
Where in CA do you live? I was born in San Rafel and moved to Idaho when I was 8. My brother lives in San Jose. I love visiting them!
Mmmm… Gotta add “move to California” to my wish list!!! LOL …yup! just for the cooling style, sirrey! Very mouthwatering, Pink!
Your pasta dish looks terrific! I love all of the red pepper flakes. Fresh blueberries really are the best. They haven’t shown up in my local farmer’s markets yet but hopefully not too much longer.
It looks sssoo flavorful!!!
