{SMS} Brooklyn Brownout Cake

Brooklyn Brownout Cake

A chocolate cake with a brownie filling and chocolate ganache? I’m so there. This week’s Sweet Melissa Sundays–the newly-formed group baking through the Sweet Melissa Baking Book–selection was the Brooklyn Brownout Cake.

It was fairly straight-forward to make (although the recipe in the book seemed to be missing a step or two), involves a lot of chocolate-melting, and is fairly messy in the assembly process (my hands were covered in chocolate multiple times).  Instead of using the 7″ pans called for, I used four 4 ” pans.

The cakes rose beautifully and I was able to split each cake into two layers.  I still need to work on my cake decorating skills. I’m on the ‘rustic’ side of cake-decorating.

But who cares how it looks. This cake is the most delicious chocolate cake I’ve ever tasted. It is  GOOD. It’s the cake you would make if you wanted someone to fall in love with you. Shoot, I was falling in love with myself as I ate it. Man, there’s magic in it or something.
