I needed a 4 or 5 inch mini-springform pan. I went to Cost Plus b/c I saw one there in the past. There was one left, but it was missing its removable bottom. I went to Target. They had one, but it was super mini; maybe 2.5 inches. Too small. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond. Nope. I went to Kohl’s. Failed again. I went to Walmart(shudder). Didn’t have it. I went to K-mart and then Mervyn’s. Nope and Nope. I finally went to this little cake decorating supply store, that I’ve driven by many times and thought was just a failed business empty storefront. Lo and behold they were open! 🙂 I’m so glad I went in. Not only did they have my mini-springform pan, but lots and lots of different types. It’s a really cool store. Lesson learned: next time I need a baking pan go to the cake store first!:P
I’m joining Tuesdays with Dorie (TWD) this week now that I have a blog. It’s a group of bloggers that are baking through Dorie Greenspan’s Baking: From My Home to Yours. You can read about the history of the group on the TWD blog. I bought the book in early July and have been unofficially following along with the group the last few weeks. As you can see, I have a lot of catching up to do!

My whole point of starting this blog is document my journey into the world of food, cooking, and baking. Prior to this year, I was an anti-cook. You wouldn’t catch me cooking; the kitchen was an unused room in my house. Then something clicked inside of me. I don’t know exact moment in time. I wish I remember the exact thought, but I don’t.
I wish I started exactly on January 1, but life doesn’t always work out perfectly and things happen on their own time. I do know exactly when I started cooking on a regular basis. I know because I started a 2008 Cooking Odyssey journal where I recorded the date of every recipe I’ve made so far.
I started on March 8, 2008. As of today, I’ve made 212 recipes. Some more successful than others. Some I’ve made more than once, but I only count the first instance. Twenty-four weeks. An average of 8.8 recipes a week. Wow. 😮
Classic Sour Cherry Pie with Lattice Crust
From the June 2008 issue of Bon Appetit. I made it while on vacation in July. I picked the sour cherries, along with raspberries and blueberries. It was a lot of fun. The pie wasn’t that hard to make. I kept the butter super cold and blended it with the dry ingredients using my fingers. My family raved about the pie, especially the crust.
The extra raw crust tasted so good, I didn’t want it to go to waste. I made a miniature blueberry galette.
I made this today. It’s a Jamie Oliver recipe from September’s Food and Wine. Yum! Picture to follow. Or just visit the linkand see the professional picture. 😛
