{twd} Irish Soda Bread

In less than two months, Paul and I are exchanging vows and rings in a simple, casual backyard ceremony. After a semi-meltdown over invitations, I’ve realized  our nonwedding-wedding is slowly turning into a wedding-wedding. Ack! Our guest list is expanding, mothers are coordinating their dresses, and I’m threatening elopement.

After taking a few deep breaths and focusing on peacelovehappiness , I’m back in my zen state of simple and casual. Invitations are en route, I’ve ordered my dress, and we’re still doing it barefoot.

On this note, I’m excited to report that this week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe–Irish Soda Bread–remained simple as promised.  In fact, it is so easy, I’ve made it twice.

The hosts for today are Cathy of My Culinary Mission  and Carla of Chocolate Moosey. Visit their blogs for the recipe or buy the book.

  1. Your loaf looks perfect! Love how golden it is. I added a little twist involving chocolate just to get my family to eat mine.
    Love your simple non-wedding plans!

  2. Oh honey, I feel the pain of the wedding planning–even for a simple, casual wedding it gets stressful towards the end. Our 1st anniversary is next month so I remember it all too well. Sounds like a simple, no-fuss bread is just what you need right now! And how perfectly it came out!

  3. You liked it so much, that you baked it twice? It looks good.

And good luck with your wedding, I wish I had married without any of my family. Not that I don’t like them, but they forgot, that it was our wedding ;-)

  4. Good luck with the wedding planning – we “tried” to keep it simple as well. (would have eloped to France but my Grandmother was a tad angry about that )

  5. Your loaf is beautiful! I feel you on wanting to keep things simple — it’s almost more work than going full-out!

  6. Good luck with the wedding plans. It will all be worth it!! :) Love the blue plate with your bread … adds to the simple-ness.

  7. Weddings with dresses and mothers and guests and never simple. Midst all the stresses its nice to have a simple yet delicious recipe to make for this post. Your bread is lovely…all your wedding work will make lovely memories for you…and yes, it will be worth it.

  8. I made this twice, too, Wendy. Your loaf is so golden! Congrats on your wedding. Baking is a good way to keep your mind off of things that might stress you out, so bake away! :)

  9. Your bread looks perfectly delicious! Baking has always been a stress reliever for me, too! Congrats on the upcoming wedding…a garden wedding sounds lovely!

  10. Your loaf looks so beautifully golden! I find when I am really stressed that baking helps relax me and makes me forget about everything else. I hope it is the same for you. Things are probably pretty crazy with all the wedding preparations, but take a breath and relax – breathe deeply and enjoy as much of it as you can!

  11. I ended up making this recipe twice as well! Yours looks great, especially with your X. Thanks for joining me this week :)

  12. I salute you for being able to concentrate on baking in the face of such an event! (How on earth did you get through the rugelach? ;) It nearly flattened me, and I had no such distractions on my plate.)
