This week’s Sweet Melissa Sundays recipe was Orange Scented Scones. I didn’t have an orange so I made a toasted oatmeal maple version. I added whole oatmeal I toasted in the oven and instead of sugar I used maple syrup. I topped each scone with a maple glaze (powdered sugar + maple syrup). I love baking scones and this flavor combination is my favorite. If I had pecans, I would have added those too. Apparently I really need to go grocery shopping.
Thank you to Robin of Lady Craddock’s Bakery for selecting this week’s recipe. If you would like the recipe, visit her blog or buy the book.
Oh, that looks really good. The maple glaze looks super yummy.
I see that you’ll be in SF this next weekend? How nice. I’ll actually be in the city this next weekend too. It’s for a club event. We go to do the tourist things – Pier 39, clam chowder, and Ghiradelli Square.
Yum! I just so happen to have some maple syrup in the fridge so I will definitely try that instead of sugar next time.
I think you found a perfect flavor combination! They look absolutely delicious.
An oatmeal scone sounds divine. I haven’t made scones forever and all these SMS posts are making me wonder why.
This sounds like the perfect breakfast scone! I love that you toasted the oatmeal and used maple syrup for the sugar and glaze! Ingenious! I’m certainly going to try these. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
I love maple scones, they’re my favorite! I love the idea of toasting the oats, so yummy!
What a great idea to toast the oats! Your scones look very yummy!
MMMMM these look amazing!! I love maple scones!
What a great variation! Your scones look great.
I love your adaptation of these. Scones are so delicious- pecans would have put these over the top!
A very clever (and delicious-sounding!) substitution. I’m maple-crazy, so this has me salivating.
I need to go grocery shopping too – I just made a dish this weekend that needed walnuts, which we didn’t have around. Love the maple glaze on your scones, they sound delicious!
Yummy! These look delicious!!!
Hi Wendy!
I’m your Mom’s friend, Ginger. Your website is on my “favorites” and I check you frequently. I’m so happy that you’re doing all this cooking and I had no idea these cooking clubs existed. What an awesome experience for you!
Love, Ginger
Your maple scones sound very fall-ish. Autumn keeps teasing us, but when it finally arrives, I’ll have to try this variation. You should grab some oranges when you go to the store; the original version of the scone was super tasty.
Oh wow. Those sound amazing!!! Maple syrup glaze, where have you been all my life??! I can’t wait to try your variation x
Ciao ! This recipe really is one I would like to try SUBITO !!!!

by far my favorite kind of scone.
I must stop visiting you before I have lunch. It’s torture to see something this delicious and not have one!
Thanks for baking along with me this week! Your maple glaze sounds so good and I love maple syrup. I made some maple scones and added pecans; the two flavors go so well together.
I like your take on the scone recipe. Glad your tweaks worked for you. That glaze looks like caramel. Yum!
As soon as I made these I thought ” I’ve got to make a maple version” looks like you beat me to it!
Those look fantastic Wendy! Maple glaze is so yummy and perfect for this time of year!
Wow! Your scones look amazing. I love the topping.
These just scream Fall! Love them.
See ya at Blogher! Can’t believe it’s finally here!
I want that glaze. I’ll take it on some waffles.
