{twd} honey-peach tartufo

It figures that the first post I write after my absence is about ice cream. It’s fitting, don’t you think? I’m glad to be back, at least in a limited capacity until I get my life straightened out.

Thank you so much for all your kind words, support, and thoughts. It surprised me how many comments were left in my very, very brief post. It means a lot to me.  I love that we’ve developed into this virtual community that spans the globe. Long story short, my husband and I are getting divorced and I’m temporarily living with my parents until we get some of the legal stuff worked out.

Anyway, I’m back.  And I’m back with ice cream.  😛

This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie selection is Honey-Peach Ice Cream. I decided to make Tartufo with it. Tartufo are Italian chocolate-covered ice cream truffles. Instead of the traditional chocolate covering, I decided to go with white-chocolate. I also rolled some Tartufo in toasted hazelnuts.

I made ice cream balls using my mini-ice cream scoop and placed them on a chilled plate in the freezer for an hour. To make the white-chocolate shell, I melted 100 grams of chopped white-chocolate with 2 tablespoons of canola oil. I let it cool to room-temperature before dipping the ice cream balls in it. I then rolled the covered ice cream ball in toasted hazelnuts. I placed the tartufo back in the freezer.

These were a big hit. Everyone loved them. Thank you to Tommi of Brown Interior for selecting this week’s recipe as we bake our way through Dorie Greenspan’s Baking…From My Home to Yours. If you would like the ice cream recipe, please visit Tommi’s blog.

  1. Oh, wow! Ice cream truffles — these look so amazing. Only you could make these look as perfect as they do. I think that the white chocolate and toasted hazelnuts are a perfect accompaniment to the peaches and honey.

  2. I’m really glad you’re back Wendy, even in a limited capacity. Sorry to hear your news – hope everything gets worked out quickly.

I knew you’d do something creative with this week’s recipe, but this is amazing! I’ve never heard of tartufo but they look and sound delicious!

  3. I am so glad you’re back – I’ve missed your posts, especially all the ice cream 🙂

Sorry to hear about the impending divorce – I hope everything works out for you.

  4. Glad you are back and with ice cream, yum! It looks heavenly! Best of luck with everything. Hang in there! Sending my love and support!

  5. I’m so glad to see you are back… hope all is well.

And I see that you went all out with that ice cream! WOW! Incredible… I have to invite myself sometimes! LOL LOL

  6. Whoa, you came back big! This is amazing, and a good use for all the leftover white chocolate I have from the dacquoise shopping (bought different brand and then found the ivoire) and the leftover honey-peach!

Will continue to keep you in thoughts and prayers…

  7. Wow! You win today for most tempting, delicious looking thing to do with the ice cream! Pop one over in my direction. I’ll catch it right in my mouth! 😉 Sorry to hear about all your issues. Hope all is grand, soon!

  8. What a great way to transform ice cream into a sweet little snack. Now I want to shape what’s left of my ice cream into little balls and roll it around in white chocolate and amaretti cookie crumbs!

  9. Bien contente de ton retour, en espérant que moralement, ça ira mieux !

ta présentation est absolument géniale, j’aurais volontiers tout mangé toute seule 🙂

  10. I’m sorry about what you are going through. I’ve been there myself and it is never a happy time. Your ice cream looks so fantastic! I wish I had time to make this week’s pick. 😦 I think I am getting the summer not-wanting-to-cook blahs.

  11. Welcome back! So sorry to hear about your tough time. Sometimes, the best way to relax or de-stress is to cook (well, according to us food bloggers, at least!) Gorgeous, gorgeous tartufo. I may have to steal this idea for a dinner party I am catering in August!

I hope everything gets better very quickly.

  12. HOLY SHIT.

So first of all, I’m really, really sorry. But I can tell you that sometimes you have to go through absolute hell in order to reach absolute heaven. Honestly, I’m living proof of that. It sounds so cliche and everything, but don’t let yourself listen to the negativity. We all make mistakes in relationships, but it doesn’t mean we are mistakes ourselves. My thoughts are with you. Thank you for your honesty – I was wondering what was going on, and was hoping everything was ok.

Second, people love your blog, and inherently love you. So don’t be afraid to put it all out here. I know you have a lot to say, and you have a lot of people who want to listen.

My heart goes out to you.

  13. We’re all so happy you’re back, and thinking of you. I love what you did with this…and you know you were a big part of my inspiration to make ice cream!

  14. I love these little ice cream bon bons! I was thinking that you rolled them in toasted coconut, but then I actually read the post. Coconut might not be a bad idea, though.

Take care of yourself – that’s the most important thing.

  15. You have done an incredible job taking the lovely ice cream to sublime heights! I have never tried making tartufo before, seems like a Daring Baker’s endeavor. 🙂
So sorry to hear that you are going through a divorce. I know how stressful that can be. If it helps – I was divorced many years ago, and my second marriage has been great – we had both learned so much from our first marriages.

  16. *hugs* So sorry to hear the news Wendy, I hope everything sorts itself out quickly.

You made ice cream truffles with white chocolate and toasted hazelnuts – wow, I love it! Yours is my very favorite TWD blog to read because you always have such an interesting twist 🙂

  17. You’re amazing! The Honey Peach Tartufo looks stunning! I’ve never heard of Tartufo before but can’t wait to try it!

  18. Oh Wendy, I’m so sorry. I’ve been there too and can assure you life is much better once the dust settles. Give yourself time to heal.

And give yourself some amazing looking ice cream! Oh, you did that already. Good job!

  19. These are so amazingly beautiful. I can’t believe how talented you are on a regular basis over here…I thought Nancy was amazing this week doing three kinds of peach ice cream/sorbets, but I have to say that this one also just hits it out of the ballpark. Very lovely.

  20. WOW, amazing looking ice cream!!! Now I know what to do with the rest of the ice cream. Glad you are back, remember, when life gives you crumbs just make something delicious.

  21. Wow that looks amazing. You always seem to take something wonderful and make it even more wonderful. I still have your morning buns on my brain constantly.

i am sorry you are going through this difficult time but i hope that the next chapter of your life brings you happiness. i agree that the food blogging community is amazing.

  23. Been there, done that (not the ice cream). It was like a knife in my gut; I remember it to this day. Good news – life afterwards has been more than I could have ever dreamed. Pray….mine are with you…

  24. I am so glad you are back! I hope everything works out for the best.
I was wondering what amazing thing you would do with this ice cream since you make ice cream every week anyway. The truffles look delicious!

  25. Yum. Yum. Yum. What a great way to serve ice cream!

Welcome back. I’ve been there and done that, too. One thing I learned is that life is continually changing. so don’t get too used to the down side, because it will go away.

  26. ((hugs)) I seriously never thought I would use that emoticon but there isn’t anything else to say, you know? Thinking about you. Let me know if you need anything!

And darn. What an amazing ice cream chocolate ball of goodness.

  27. Welcome back! I hope life settles down for you soon. What a great idea for this week’s recipe! I’m adding it to my must-make list right now. =) Dark chocolate, here though (don’t like white very much). I bet my girls would just love these.

  28. Welcome back! This week’s recipe couldn’t have been more perfect for you (I love your ice cream creations). What you did is really amazing. I love white chocolate.

Best of luck on the homefront. You’ll get through it!

  29. It is fitting that you come back with an ice cream post, and an awesome one at that! I thought of you when I was making this week’s TWD, because I think of you every time I think of ice cream! And I sent best wishes your way.

  30. I’m glad you’re back and strong, offering this delicious tartufo! Looks lovely, and I’m sure those bite-sized pearls were dangerous to be around, fear of massive consumption.
When life slaps you around a bit, it’s nice to retreat to one’s happy place (ie kitchen!) and indulge in a comforting activity. Separations are painful, but we learn a lot about ourselves through them and, once they’re over and the healing begins, you fall in love with yourself all over again!
I wish I could offer more support than just words at the bottom of a post… I send you a wamr hug, full of energy, encouragement and strength to brave these tough times.

  31. Sorry to hear you are going through such a difficult time. I hope everything gets resolved quickly and amicably.

Good lord those truffles look amazing! I have some leftover ice cream . . . ah, the temptation. Great idea!

  32. Oh Wendy, I’m sorry. I’ll be thinking of you during this process!

Kudos on your creative idea – it’s fun to see all the different things you can do with ice cream.

  33. White chocolate? ice cream? HECK YEAH! What a great way to make a comeback. So glad you’re back, baking and blogging again. Your tartufos are beyond awesome. I still have some ice cream left. I so have to try this! Great job!
